Hi All,

Just acquired a Gemeinhardt M2CS closed hole intermediate flute.

Looking for trivia and info, opinions about etc.

Gemeinhardt had little info about this flute when I contacted them all they knew was it was solid silver all the way, silver plated keys, built somewhere betweeen 1970 and 1975.

They said the only difference they could tell between the M2S and the M2CS was that the M2CS had gold springs.

Anybody know any more about this one? If you have one, do you love it? Like the tone? Hate it? I am fortunate that it is in remarkable condition, very lightly used.

New to the forum...don't see a way to post a picture?

Thank you!

Ellis

Hi Ellis.
I fear there aren't many that hang around here anymore. It's really a shame as most questions about a flute seem to lead to old posts from this site. Your new acquisition sounds like a pretty nice flute if you got it for a good price but I'm finding that a lot of folks that play flute for a living seem to dislike Gemeinhardts as well as Armstrongs (like I just purchased). The mechanisms might need a little more attention than the preferred brands but I think they are a helluva good bargain once they hit the used market! I'm sure that there are much better choices at retail prices for new instruments but I get a better sound out of my Armstrong than I ever heard out of most of the lower tier models of Yamaha. Your Gem is no doubt in the same category.

I hope you will continue to check in here. Maybe if we at least have some bodies here to respond to posts there might eventually be enough flutists to answer questions that people go through the trouble to ask here.

How incredibly kind of you to reply! Thank you. I agree with all you say. My flute fills the room with a very rich sound that I don't hear from newer flutes like you mention.

Price was $165, a total blessing, as I could not afford more.

Again, thank you for your reply, and have fun with your Armstrong!

All the best,

Ellis

Wow I thought I got a good deal with mine. You can probably get more than 165 if you sold it for melt value!
