Yesterday, March 24, 2004 I went to attend Sir James Galway`s recital. His wife, Lady Jeanne Galway is played several duets with him too. My classmate got to a chance to do a pre-show thing and played with 75 other flutists and Jeanne. However, I didn`t go because I was doing homework.
Galway played beautifully. His tone was fabulous and his notes were crisp. After the recital I got his autograph, by mistake. My mom thought she heard me see that I needed to use the restroom. So she said wait in the lobby, so I did, but I didn`t quite hear me, so I was so confused. So I stayed in the lobby while Galway did his encore, however, they did have speakers in the lobby so I could hear him still play. Then, I kinda got bored standing in the lobby. So I see several people line up near this table with black sharpies. I remember that during intermission I heard he was going to sign autographs. So I was like, "get in line!" So I did. I was like 10th in line out of 200. But then, 30 FluteWise students get to have autographs signed first. When of the people who work at the hall said: "Are you a student?" And I said: "yes...no...but im a flute student."
But eventually I got my 2 cds i bought from the recital signed and Lady Galway was super nice, while Sir James Galway barely acknowledged me in person. I told him: "Beautiful recital" and he mumbled: "thanks"
I also saw my friend and my band teacher. And another classmate. A lot of flutists, it was really cool.
The overall experience was amazing! Sir James Galway is amazing and my 2 favorite parts were the Debussy pieces and the duet with his wife.
Nobody should ever miss out on a chance like this!
