Alright, I am in 12th grade (18 years old) and have been playing for...8 or so years. My friend (who plays trumpet) told me how to do circular breathing...I went home, and actually taught myself...do flutist really use it in professional playing a lot?...or evern at all...cause it`s almost impossible for flute.

Ok, yeah, this is a young room...but, circular breathing...is where you can hold a single note for...like...a really long time, and it seems like ur not breathing. But, you breathe through ur nose...while at that SAME EXACT time, ur blowing out air through ur mouth. So, you take in air through nose, let it out into instrument through mouth...at the same exact time...it`s weird...but really fun hehe.

I am 1st chair and the only 6th grade first chair too! I beat 2 7th graders and an 8th grader. )

it`s hard on anything really... but especially on woodwinds... it`s rarely neccesary though, so if you can`t do it, i wouldn`t worry about it

The only instrument you actually need to use circular breathing on is the didgeridoo...have any of you tried it before? its a way cool instrument and has an earthy, low sound

Yeah, same here, Sam. The only instrument that I have heard of using circular breathing is the didgeridoo. When my brother gave me my didgeridoo from Australia he taught me how to do it and I was able to do it for a while. I stopped practicing and probably couldn`t do it now. It takes practice and a lot of mental thought. But if I could do it, I am sure you could too with practice and time. It is really cool once you do it, but I haven`t heard of using it with the flute.
