I am looking for an advanced or professional style flute with pointed arms if possible. The Gemeinhardt KGM Limited seems like a good flute. If you have any experience with this flute please respond. Thank You.

I don`t think many professional players play Gemeinhardt - none in my city that I know of. What does that say? Perhaps I am wrong.

Ya know, Gemeinhardt just does not enjoy the reputation it once did. My flute choir director, who is also the flute professor at Texas Women`s University, just recently bought her own daughter a Jupiter beginning flute (I believe it was a Jupiter, maybe Altus). Gemeinhardt used to be the standard beginning flute.

As for a pro flute, I wouldn`t get my heart set on one particular brand. I know price is huge. The KGM is much cheaper than say an equivalent Haynes or Myazawa. Your best bet is to go through FluteWorld or the Woodwind and try several different flutes and go with what sounds and plays best in your hands. No two flutes even from the same manufacturer or line play the same. I also wouldn`t rule out a used flute. Carolyn Nussbaum at flute4u.com is also another great resource.

Good luck!
Diane

I am not a professional flute player just an advance high school player. I can not afford thousand dollar flutes. The KGM Limited is around 1300 dollars which is my budget. I was just wondering is this perticular flute good for advanced wind ensembles or solo performances? I was also looking at the Sonare SF6000. Is that flute any good?

There have been some pretty negative comments about the mechanism of Sonare flutes on forums. In the end, a flute is only as good as its mechanism.
