I am interested in knowing what is actually on the headjoint / body: is there any indication on the flute itself about "sterling silver" "solid silver" or "925"?

The reason for asking is that according to yamaha UK site, the flutes are only made from "precious metal" not "silver" so i assume the material used does not meet the UK legal definition of silver. This applies right up to the 800 series!

From memory the `silver` models DO have a form of Sterling Silver mark on them.

That UK site seems to be written by somebody who knows rather little.

Try the English version of the Japanese site, which matches the info in the brochure I have from Japan in Japan:

Thanks. I have now solved the mystery: apparently in the UK silver cannot be described as silver unless it is hallmarked. So in theory no UK flute can be described as having a silver head. I guess that is one law that gets ignored a lot!!
