I also admit that my choice in playing open hole had absolutly nothing to do with any improved tone. In fact I agree that overall there is not much, if any difference, between open hole and closed hole flutes.

I have to say that I only consider there to be two reasons for shoosing an open hole flute. One is the range of effects it offers for certain kinds of modern music; and the other is the subjective feeling it offers the players. Subjectivity is important in music as long as we recognise it as such!!
