Flute Resolutions

Okay now it`s the start of a New Year, and I`m asking what everyone resolves to do with their flute-playing this year.

No resolutions of practising longer/harder need apply.

My resolution is to take Elvis Costello`s New Amsterdam and The Who`s Pure and Easy, and adapt them to the flute, and of course to play them.

Am I such a Fuddy-Duddy (isn`t using Fuddy-Duddy, sort of Fuddy-Duddy itself?), to believe in resolutions anymore.

I`m not the kind to resolve to lose weight(I`m muscular, but I wish I could lose the gut), stop smoking (I don`t), be more charitable with time and money (I`m a caregiver).

But I think it`s good to set future goals for oneself.

Are there any competitions comimg up? Are you going to attempt a difficult piece? Move up a chair? Get a solo?

That`s it, put down the cookies, and pick up your flute.

Mine are to tutor a few fellow flute players of mine without losing first chair (or my mind)!
Another resolution is to back off of being so jumpy and stressed out in band-our new director is kinda spaced out about our upcoming concert.
And my last resolution is to have faith in something I think I can do without beating the heck out of it...particularly my concert music.
(and cookies are a weakness for me, too!)

My resolution is to learn the auto sax. I know that it’s not really a flute goal, but “They” say that once you learn a second instrument, your skill on the first instrument improves. However... The cookies (or any other sweet) is way way way to hard to refuse.
Peace,

Hahaha! Cookies!!! One of my favourites are from Famous Amos... Free Smell.
Ok I digress. I`ve been reading Flute forums for quite a while I dun really agree that our skill for the 1st instrument improves when we pick up the 2nd. Coz I`m currently doing Violin ABRSM Grade 5 and I picked up Piano a few months back. hahaha! I`m trying hard to juggle between practices coz I`m a busy working adult. Don`t think my neighbours will be happy with me practicing late at night. Especially on the violin.

My New Year Resolution: To practice more. Not to give up. And possibly pick up Flute as my 3rd instrument when I have the time and $. Coz I really like the sound of the flute.

Cheers to everyone for the new year.

P.S: Pls pray for the Tsunami Victims in South Asia. I happen to be lucky enough to be born in Singapore so I feel very deeply saddened that approx. 145,000 innocent lives were lost overnight.

I am also hoping that help comes to the victims, and I am glad that you mentioned it. How did we ever start talking about cookies? Anyway, I decided last night that I would try and learn to play the drums. I know some people think that it is too easy or too hard for a flute player, but I have always wanted to learn and think that it will be a good thing for my awful counting skills. Even though i am in concert band, I am horrible at counting. Another possible resolution....work on counting!

i plan to continue all of my community service projects even though my service learning class will be ending soon. i also plan on challenging all the flutes that passed me up for auditions to recieve my chair back. i did want to learn to play alto sax but the person i was going to get the sax from is no longer speaking to me. so better luck next time.

At my lesson Wednesday, my instructor was thrilled, that I was interested in the Elvis Costello piece, that it is now part our lesson plan. We are studying music theory as well and the score I have of "New Amsterdam" had all of the chord markings that illustrate what we are working with the theory lessons.
