How much do you think a bass flute costs? Just the basic one-octave-lower one.

Are you sure you want a bass flute and not an alto?

Check http://www.fluteworld.com They have some alto and bass flutes and you can get an idea from there. They generally sell them cheaper on this site too.
Are you planning on playing in a flute choir or something??

There are some good threads on the chiff and fipple traditional flute board. The board is almost entirely about wooden flutes and traditional music, but also sometimes includes threads on silver flutes that are not your standard C concert.

Go to http://chiffboard.mati.ca, click on Flute, and search for "alto flute". There`s a post where someone highly recommended the sound of the jupiter bass flute. And for only $2000!

On that note, I had enough trouble with my arms getting quickly tired holding an alto flute with a straight head. The bass would take even more getting used to!

My school owns a Gemeinhardt bass flute, and i believe it was somewhere around 2500($). Its a blast to play, but unless i went professional, i wouldnt get one for myself.
