There is a rather expensive, specialised tool for removing these. Probably a pair of small, robust engineer`s dividers would be just as successful. These are like a drawing compass except they have two points, and no pencil.
I adapted mine, making the arms really short, and with blunt points which are the same diameter as the holes, so that the tool was a lot more robust, less inclined to twist, and more secure in the holes.
You may have success just using the point of a compass in just one of the holes, and carefully unscrewing, but there is a high chance of slipping, damaging the hole, and wrecking the pad.
Once they are slightly loose, or if you are lucky, even while they are still fully done up, you can just use your thumb pressed against it to turn it. A latex glove would increase the friction over y our thumb.
