Hi guys. My friend (who lives an hour away from me) recently bought a secondhand flute that plays fine but is missing the crown. I`m thinking about giving her the crown of my flute, as soon as I buy a new one, but I`m not sure if it`ll fit. Are endcaps all the same size?

There is a high chance it will fit, but there is also a good chance it won`t fit. The flute player that sits next to me rented a flute that`s a student model, and the cap is just welded on! Also, if you give your friend your cap, wether it`s your old flute or something, your flute might sound out of tune, or might be hard to hit notes.

Speaking as a repair tech, I can tell you that playing without the crown on your flute will make absoulutely no difference what so ever.

Oh At least on my piccolo , by moving the cap, it makes it easier for me to hit the high high notes like C or D. Doesn`t the flute look wierd without the cap? P.S. You might harass someone sitting next to you because the end is sharp!

Are you talking about moving the cork position? If so that is a different matter all together.

nooooooo, I just twist the cap, and then it`s easier for me! Anyways, if it doesn`t do anything, why does it screw off?

It screws off so that you can take the head cork off when it needs replacing. It is also use to adjust the cork placement.

Are you turning the cork to the right? If so, what you are doing is pulling the cork further away from the embouchure whole. It is not recommend to do this as there is a specific distance that it should be for proper tuning.

Now if you are twisting it to the left, the only thing you are doing is loosening the end cap and this has no affect on the flutes playability.

Where is Meme when we need him? Please come back.He is always so much better with words then I am.

Oh! That`s interesting and understandable enough! Maybe I was just thinking that it`ll change and I just imagined it changed

i have never heard that just moving the end cap on a piccolo would help your ability to get the higher notes out....

and yes, where is Meme when you need him?
