Why don`t you keep the flute out of its case and just wrap the flute in a magazine page, or a pretty picture.
Why do you want to decorate your case? Is it an expression of love for your flute case? Or a relic of your infant days playing with stickers? Or.....

What are peoples problem! You don`t want to decorate your case fine then let us run wild with our imagination instead of putting us down jeeze. It`s like you`re bugged we want to decorate. Ok don`t then. So put your input elsewhere. You like decorating your room? Because it`s personal and expression of who you are. Same with a musical instrument. I love mine so much and is extension of myself that I wanted to decorate the case I keep my prized possession in it and express my personality not just with playing but on the case itself. Like i said people really need to CHILL here!

What a fine statement!

I was going to do a one-stoke painting on my case, but my parents wouldn`t go for it because I "promised" we could sell my Timmy (my old flute) when they got me an open holed. But for the mean time I just got a bunch of labels and decorated them with the ponies I work with. But I was wondering. Would paint chip off the plastic cases that they typically come in?

Yes, most likely if you are painting over plastic. I don`t think that it would be such a good idea because when the paint starts to chip and flake, when you open the case, parts of it could get onto your flute and into the mechanism.

You could probably Shellac your case after you decorate it to retain its look. Magazines/Newspapaer clippings shellaced to a case would certainly have a very refined look to it.
