I play the alto sax and i`m thinking about learning a new instrument over the summer.i was thinking of the clarinet. has any1 played both? if so do you think that it is simular at all and simi simple to play???????

There is more simularities between tenor sax and clarinet since they are both Bb instruments.

but you can do it...embochure is slightly different, both are reed instruments, throat position slightly different.....just little chances here and there.

I`ve been playing both saxophone and clarinet since I was 11 years old....haven`t seen much a difference yet.

i found it easier to switch from clarinet to sax, for it may be hard to switch to clarinet from sax only because clarinet requires a much more diciplined embouchure. fingerings are a little different, for the clarinet octave jump you up an octave and then some. other than that, its pretty easy, good luck

switch to Eb clarinet or contrabass and you`ll have a lot of fun once you get the hang of it!
