Andrea:
To my knowledge you haven`t offended anyone! One of the sad things about written language is that sarcasm doesn`t show itself well. I am certainly not offended! My pseudo-frustration goes to the original poster! When I posted my first few comments, I was merely being sarcastic! So there is no need to apologize. I agree with your sentiments regarding the maturity of this board. There is a pretty good board(although political at times) at www.woodwind.org. I agree that this site is more based for grade school kids.
Cheers!
Dmitri

Ok? Umm, why exactly are you getting mad at me? I never said anyone was bad or not talented, did I? No, so you don`t have any right to be mad at me. I`m sorry if I offended anyone, I don`t see what would have offended anyone, but, ok, whatever. So,I guess what I failed to mention was that I don`t get many opportunities to play outside of school. And the music I play for band and other events aren`t very challenging to me, so therefore I don`t need to practice very much. And as for learning new techniques, I guess they come naturally to me and I don`t need to practice those very much either. And I would also like to thank you for clarifying what practice and rehearsal are, although I`m sorry to say I already knew what they were and what the difference between them were, but thank you anyway. Yeah, just so you know, we all play at different levels, and some of us just be better than others. Some of us may be more devoted to playing than others. But I suppose you already knew that, right? So, the moral of the story is we all play at different levels, and some of us are better than others. We all have different talents. And I am just another human that loves playing clarinet, and doesn`t get challenged enough. So I`m sorry that you were offended. Good luck with your clarinet playing, and other things you do.

I assume the 2007 is for "Class of 2007"? If so, I understand why you are acting the same way my High School sophomore acts.
I wasn`t mad at anyone. I too have natural talent...that`s why I went to college on a full tuition scholarship...though that is not what I eventually chose to make a living in I do indeed enjoy playing and I continue to find groups that challenge me.

Squiggles...if you are not being challenged, go pick up a copy of the Rode 20, Jeanjean 16 and 18. That should challenge you. To be honest, I thought the same way you did when I was your age. Then I went and auditioned at several major schools of music. Then, I realized that just because I was at the top of my section in hs did not mean I was the stuff in the real world. So instead of arguing with someone about your current talent, realize that if you`re doing Jeanjean you just won`t pick it up! So what if you practice alot at school. I went to a performing arts hs and we practiced three hours a day. That left enough time to go home and practice more.

Okay Dmitri, so your angry at the original poster? Why? All is being done is expressions is practise areas, if people were helpful with out the sarcasm there would have been a point to this forum. There have been helpful comments, then you think this is a wasteful and silly topic? It is important and I dont see why it can`t be shared.

I guess it sounded like you were mad at me, and I know that I`m not the best clarinet player in school. Thanks for the advice Dimitri. I think I might go out and find that music.

I do find it a pointless topic. And there is no sarcasm in that last sentence. Too many variables to care from one person to the next. So don`t worry about individual time, rather quantity of material.

I practise 2 to 3 hours a day. I first do tone excercises, than scales-major, minor, whole tone, chromatic... I`ll do atleast all of them in a week, than I play methods and practise sight reading, than I sometimes work on ensemble music (not that frequently though), and finally I spend most of the time woking on my solo repertoire. I try to split all the pieces I`m currently working on into 2-3 day slots during the week so I spending an equal amount of time on all of them.

It may seem like a pointless topic but its really not. Learning an instrument is a very solitary thing. Even if you play in a group setting, you almost always practice alone. Its easy to feel isolated. This board is a good way to connect with other people who are doing the same thing.
I practice maybe 40-60 minutes a day. Tinker around for 4 more hours a week. I just play for fun.

10-15mins on any technical studies
10-15mins on pieces
10-15mins on band or orchestra music
