We do not have flutes because if there was no piccalo the part would not be heard. The other person that would have played flut became a drum major. There are only three clarinets because I became the other drum major. We have yet to know if the other girl is going to play flute or not because it would be her first time in marching band.

i think it depends where you ask - when i was on an exchange in america i noticed that their band had lots of flutes / piccolos, whereas in the UK bands have lots of brass, and usually no flutes - pretty much i have never seen a UK band use picc.

For my high school Wind Symphony next year this is what the instrumentation is supposed to be:

and 1 trombone... lol, in high school there were a lot more
people in the band... my college needs more musicians. };->

I`m from the U.K. and I agree with ash, we do have a lot of brass players and not many woodwind players. Basically we have about 20 string players, 15 brass players and 3 woodwind players.

I play flute and double on piccolo (hardly ever used)
1 Clarinet player
1 saxophone player.

I also play clarinet and saxophone if needed.

so i`m basically the woodwind section LOL
