omg - i have to play this piece, I can`t find any recordings of it, have never heard it, and have been left to my own devices for learning it - does anyone have any advice as far as tempo etc ?

The dymanic markings are really r e a l ly precise, are they supposed to be followed exactly or what ?

It`s driving me crazy - lol

Maybe you haven`t found the piece because it`s called Le Tombeau de Couperin not Le Tombeau de Ravel. It`s Ravel`s homage to the late seventeenth, early eighteenth century composer Francois Couperin.

Are you looking for the piano version or the version scored for orchestra?

no no - i know there is a piece called le tombeau de coupe-whatever, but this one is le tombeau de ravel - it`s a different piece.

Apparently this is by Rudolf Escher (1912-1980), a composer I hadn`t heard of until I looked up this peice of music. So it`s definitely not by Ravel. It`s probably a reflexion on the music of Ravel in the way Ravel reflected the music of Couperin ( Tombeau is an unusual word in music ), but I haven`t seen the peice so I can`t be sure.

Another source says it`s by Arthur Benjamin, so now I`m not sure.

if i remember correctly, tombeau is french for tomb.

there probably isn`t a recording of it but check with luyben music, perhaps they could point you to a site that would carry it. also, vandoren has an extensive library of clarinet cd`s for purchase. luyben and vandoren are probably your best bets.

as far as tempo, dynamics, etc. i would listen to le tombeau de couperin and try to emulate that style because this piece is obviously a spin off of the ravel.
