Try tonguing exercises & long notes to improve intonation

Do not get discouraged! To back up Peter, how often/long
do you practice? Try recording your long tone practice sessions and listen back to see what you actually sound like. Do you have a teacher to help you?
Proper breath support makes all the difference on tone production. I also think that the right mouthpiece helps. If you are still using the mouthpiece that came with your horn, it might be time to try something to help you with tone production. I commend you for being concerned with your tone, as I think it is probably the first thing to elevate your playing to higher level. It is, after all, probably the first thing that your audience is going to notice.
Email if you want some tone production tips. I have had 3 clarinet teachers with two different types of tone over 11 years who really have helped me choose what I wanted to sound like and I also am a saxophonist.

ooops... almost forgot,, the dwa-ing; is the mouthpiece in
too far or are you possibly not using the tip portion of your tongue to articulate?
