I am going to begin to learn the saxaphone, so I can try out for my high school`s jazz band next year (they don`t allow clarinets in it). I was wondering what strength reed I should buy for the sax if I`m currently using a 4 for my Bb clarinet. Thanks for the help.

The reed on a sax is a fair bit wider so I`d suggest somewhere around about half of what you`d normally use and work it from there.

2`s have always been a good starter, though I do know of players (me included) who had 1`s fettled so that they were paper thin!

I use a 3 for clarinet and I started with a 2, 2 1/2 reed for saxaphone.

I think a two is a good place to start
