I think Buffet is the best because it has pefect tone and pefect wood. I don`t think that Signet is good because the tone holes are to big, I don`t like Yamaha because it just slaps them together and semler just does have the skill.

I found at a antique show a clarinet with the name on it of
Revere but on the body it says Made in Germany with the
serial number 37869, does anyone know anything about this
it appears to be wood with silver, I just thought it was
of good quality and bought it.

I like Yamaha. I have an intermediate Yamaha clarinet and it plays beautifully. My plastic student Yamaha is a good instrument too.

BUFFET ALL THE WAY!!!! I compared an R13 to one of those Yamaha wood clarinets... wasn`t sure what it was, but I got to try it out in the store... THAT WAS COOL... NEWAYS THERE WAS SO MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE IN THE TONE QUALITY IT WASN`T FUNNY!! Buffet`s sound sooo much better then yamaha`s though... unless you get a really crappy rundown one on ebay, in that case yamaha`ll sound better..

ok, please help me. I need to know which is the best clarinet for me to get. I am now becoming a freshmen and need a clarinet that will last me throughout high school. I really need one that has a good tone quality and doesn`t go flat on the open notes. I prefer having one with gold keys since they look cool. I am on a $1000 dollar budget and really want to lease it. Please tell me the type i should get, where should i buy it from and all that stuff. I currently use 3.5 van doran reeds and are moving on to 4. I can play pretty good on my cheap student clarinet and have been best in my class for a while. Please help me. Thanks

I talked to a man at musikfest about buying a professional and he said about Buffet R13 or a La Blonk. they run anywhere from 1700 dollars to 5000 dollars so if you want to buy a professional clarinet and you are going to stick to music then that would be the way to go.

Jennifer, it`s Leblanc* and no clarinet should cost $5000. If you pay that much, you either bought an oboe by accident, or paid too much.

Hi, clarinets do cost $5000 (Australian dollars), is it cost $5000 american, it`s a different story.. but some of the top clarinets cost up to $5000 Australian and its the price you pay for the best.. I dont think you`re necessarily paying too much, when you get what you pay for..

Actually helper, $3,494.63 USD is still overpaying. There is one clarinet- the Buffet Tosca that costs that much and even people that like it agree it is overpriced and that the price will likely come down with time. Either way, argue what you wish but that was not a personal attack on my part when I corrected Jennifer- everyone makes mistakes ( I know I make them) and I was clarifying. Don`t turn this into another extremely petty argument like we`ve seen many times on this unfortunately un-moderated forum.

Buffet and Yamaha Eb`s

I have played Eb clarinet for 15 years and until recently used my bands Noblet. Over the last few years I began to find it limiting as the top octave was quite flat despite a gorgeous lower register. I investigated several other Eb`s and borrowed both Yamaha`s and Buffet`s. In my opinion there was no contest in sound with the Buffet R13 beating the Yamaha YCL881 hands down. I eventually settled for a Buffet RC Prestige and after a few weeks of breaking it in I now love it to bits. I`ve tried many mouthpieces and ligatures but can`t beat the combination of a Vandoren B44 (with mouthpiece protector patch!) and BG Revelation Ligature. I also play a Peter Eaton Bb clarinet - which took some time to break in (partly because it is the Elite model with the larger (1010) bore size - so I had to adjust my breathing techniques) but now I find it capable of producing a pure and exquisite tone.
Are there any other Eb players out there that love the instrument as much as me?! If so, what brand do you play on and are there any wind band pieces you really enjoy?
