I have a 40-50 yr old wooden clarinet that I love, but when I was in school I dropped the mouthpiece and it chipped. I got a replacement one (plastic) but I hated it, it vibrated really bad and did not reproduce the beautiful tone the original had. I actually quit playing because I hated the way it sounded. I started looking for a replacement, but only a few say what they are made of, anyone know where to find a wood one?

try a ebonite(hardened rubber)mouthpiece or a crystal mouthpiece has a really nice sound.
vandoren makes good mouthpieces such as the B40 or the B45 (ebonite).
hope this helps.

Wood mouthpieces are no longer used and have been replaced by ebonite ones. With a good mouthpiece, reed and ligature you will be able to achieve a great tone. Try a Vandoren B45 (a VERY popular mouthpiece for players at all levels) or a Hyte D which often gives a player a more refined tone. Hope this helps
