well im from australia and here we definitely call it mezzo staccato
im not sure about other countries, and i dont think ive heard of spiccato. u sure spiccato isnt just a strings term??

edit: i looked in my oxford music dictionary thingymajig and spiccato is primarily a string term, and under staccato, was three: mezzo staccato, staccato and staccatissimo

mezzo staccato can be deonoted by either and dot and a tenuto line or a dot and a slur (above/below the note)

it means you should like seperate the note but not tongue them or something along those lines. That's what my private instructor told me

we need to remember, of course, that we are from different parts of the world and may have different terminology. Also, it is important to know that the interpretation of the music is more important than what you call it.
