I will be auditioning for the Tanglewood Institute (summer program), given they let me apply late (I hadn't heard about it until recently). Anyway, I have worked on the Concertino and Concerto by Weber, Solo de Concours, Three Pieces by Stravinsky (the first two pieces), and Schubert Sonata in G Minor. They say to play two constrasting pieces of literature. Which should I play?

I would recommend doing something very classical (Weber No. 2), and something modern (Premiere Rhapsody). Those are two very good pieces that are quite different in styles. Enjoy!

Would the premiere rhapsody take a long time to learn?
I don't have all that much time... but if I practice I can learn a piece quickly.

Premiere Rhapsody or Poulenc Sonara and a Weber, very good. ALternatively, the Mozart K622 and Lutoslawski I, or Malcolm Arnold Sonatina and Saint-Saens Sonata (this sonata is a quick learner and sounds beautiful.

Premiere Rhapsody is quite technical, but depending on your skill level not undoable. How long do you have until your audition? It took me only maybe two weeks I believe to learn it and memorize it, but I have a photographic memory! Good Luck!

P.S. I LOVE Lutoslawski Dance Preludes! Mvt. 3 is AWESOME!
