Right, I thought this was weird but I live in Australia so maybe it's more common other places.

Crystal mouth pieces? You guys ever seen them? I don't really see the point but the first chair in our city concertband swears by them. Do you think they're good or just stupid?

(I'm a bassoonist by the way but also play the 'net on occasions).

havent seen him for about 5 years tho, i think he was a pro
other than that, havent seen one since
they look gross after a bit of playing tho with all the condensation inside :s

Yes they look fancy but they really don't do much. Don't bother with them no matter what people say. personally I think they are disgusting as you can see everything going on in the mouthpiece. ewwww anyways they just look fancy.

Does anyone know if they effect your tuning in anyway? The guy who uses one is always flat - but that might just be him.

well my old director had one and his sound was better when he played on it . . .but the thing is that it does not matter that you have a crystal mouthpiece, it is also the style of the crystal mouthpiece which may effect your tone. personally I think that they do not make a lot of difference
