I am currently in the market for a wooden clarinet. I have been playing on a plastic one for several years now, but i got the chance to borrow a wooden one from a friend and i loved the sound of it. Could somebody tell me if rosewood clarinets sound different than blackwood? Are they better?

Yes, they do sound different. [Honduran] Rosewood clarinets usually offer a "brighter" tonal quality than Grenadilla or "African Blackwood" clarinets. It depends on the sound you want to achieve. Try out both and see which provides an easier time of reaching that sound you`re looking for when you play.

I found a site that sells single body rosewood clarinets. Are there and advantages or disadvantages to a one piece clarinet?

Isn`t Grendailla to prefer since it`s a denser kind of wood? I think I have read something about the denser the wood the better the sound. But then again all you read isn`t true. Choose the one you like the most and don`t bother with what other says if it`s just a matter of sound. We do after all hear sounds differently that`s why some people like classical music and other think it sounds awful.
