I'm going to be a sophmore in highschool and I'm moving this summer. My new band director at my new school has decided to give me a spot on his honors marching band that competes in B.O.A.(Bands of America) at the Georgia Dome this year. I'm so nervous! I have no idea what to expect. I'm afraid of being intimidated by the upperclassmen. Has anyone ever competed in B.O.A or can give me advice that will help me not get me in too deep with the upperclassmen??? HELP!

While the Marching Northmen don't compete at that particular competition, we compete elsewhere as a 4A or 5A band. The best thing you can do is prepare, and don't be nervous. I'm a section leader this year, and the things that will make me respect a freshman/incomming member are A.) Memorize your Music! B.) Don't act lost! C.) Make friends! (But don't talk too much during rehearsals. )

Upperclassmen aren't really that bad, unless you give us an excuse, or do something stupid. You will really love competing and something big like that. The rush you get on that field is amazing.

Im a freshmen in marching band and three of my friends are seniors! instead of being worried try to make friends with them!

I was a freshman this year and we went to grand national's in Indy at the RCA dome. It was a really fun experiance. dont be intemidated by upper classmen. Most of them at here at TOHS are really helpful and nice. Dont worry about it and have fun!

Oh and if your going to be performing in a indoor stadium practice using earplugs so that you get used to looking at the drum major for the tempo and not rely on the battery because there is an eco(spelled right?)

My school doesn't do bands of America, but I've heard of it. All I can say is to listen carefully in any rehearsals you have, practice, and make sure you know your music. If you have any doubt about it, ask your director. They will be much happier to help you than to have you stumble through it.
