I've been playing on a used wood clarinet that has multiple problems, such as leaks and loose keys, and I am ready to upgrade to a high quality clarinet for Wind Ensemble. Does anyone have suggestions?

What does your wind ensemble director want you to buy? I'd follow his/her direction.

I have an R13 "Festival" that I might want to sell soon. I played it through college. Silver plated keys, cost a lot when I got it new. It plays very well.

He said to have the music repair shop have a look at my current clarinet to see if there's anything they can do about the leak, but I was going to buy anyway because I just need a better clarinet for the amount and level of playing I will be doing.

Thanks for your suggestion, I'll keep that brand in mind.

what is the clarinet you are playing on now? If it is a decent one you may be better served having it serviced/overhauled.

New clarinets take a while to settle and for all the pads to bed properly etc.

Some of the older/used wooden clarinets have lovely rich tones which are difficult to duplicate on modern ones without paying extreme amounts.

It's a used wood Selmer with a laquered finish. It generally has a good tone, but there are some key leaks I'd like to get fixed on it. If I still have trouble, I'd consider trying a new one out.
