I am curious as to what reed strength and tip opening everyone uses. After
doing some experimenting I found that the closer the tip opening the
stronger the reed that can be used. For example: When I use my Yamaha 4C
mouthpiece I can not go higher than a 2-1\4 Legere reed. The 4C has a tip
opening of 1.05mm. But if I use a Fobes Debut, (tip opening 1.0mm), I
can play a 1-3\4 Legere reed which is next to impossible on my 4C. My
other question is should I use the mouthpiece that allows me to play the
strongest reed? Curiously perhaps, I find that I do prefer the Yamaha 4C
mouthpiece over the Fobes Debut, hite Premier and VD 5RV Lyre. I like the
sound better than the others so that's the one I have stuck with so far.
