Better to be a jack of all trades and a master at none?

Sure it doesn`t apply to you, but there are a couple of people I know and the more instruments they play, the worse they actually get...they lose the quality of sound they once had..plus some think that trying the instrument once counts as playing, lol.

If that were the case, I`d play Eb Soprano Clarinet as well..played that for about half a year, but no longer

Happy playing

Hey I play bass clarinet and I had a BC solo in a song called Quintology. I don`t remember who arranged it, but it was pretty sweet. I doubt contrabass would ever ever havea solo, though.

I`ve been playing the bass clarinet for four years. Cna`t brag that I`m awesome, but I`m better at it than I was on soprano and I wouldn`t trade it for anything except a contrabass or a tuba (and lessons ). My freshman year, I was part of a tuba/bass clarinet soli in marching band and last year in concert band I had a one-measure bass clarinet solo, but it was worth it .

Have been looking all over for a used Bb Contrabass and they are not anywhere to be found. I have a VITO 7182 on order but the factory keeps back ordering my order so who knows what Leblanc is up too. I am interested in a VITO 7182 or Leblanc 342. That is about all I can aford at this time.

I would love to be able to even imagine being able to afford any contrabass!! I have tried to convince both my parents and my director that it`d be nice to have one, but they don`t really like my idea...
There is a site that I`ve looked at www.giardinelli.com, but most of those are professional instruments. I believe that the contrabass - sorry, don`t know the brand - is around $5,000.

i play bass clarinet in my high school band and i actuall had a solo in one of our songs last year Called "Molly on the Shore" the whole song pretty much features the regular clarinet exept my 11 measures which i must say were very challenging

I wish i could play the bass clarinet for the band... but we got a contra... and only 1 tuba... so i sub for tuba playing the contra. Most of the posts ppl put on here said they play contra, I havent seen many who play the Contra-Alto. Yeah, thats what I play for the band and I hope to get a reconditioning ($745??!!!) for it soon. Good luck to all trying out for all county/all state (which i am doing, with the bass clarinet!)
