In orchestra yesterday there was a bass clarinet solo. I was sitting in front of the bass clarinets and they have such a gorgeous sound! I definitely want to take that up!!!

I`ve played Bass Clarinet for 6 years and I LOVE IT!! i`m the only one in a band of 90. I`ve been looking into contra bass clarinets now to see how it is to play that. If anyone knows of any contra bass clarinet sites with good information let me know

I love playing bass clarinet and i have been playing it for about 5 years now. I dont mind playing contra bass, but the bass clarinet is my passion. Last year in concert season we had a solo in the first movement of Incidental Suite-Tarantella....it is really pretty. And as for the whole marching aspect, even tho u have to wear a neck strap with it, I wouldn`t change it for the world.

i`ve played bass clarinet for 4 yrs and i still love it!!!!i also play regular clarinet in marching band(played it for 5yrs). I haven`t gotten a solo, but i`ve had parts where its just me and the bari sax. they sound really cool together. this one we`re working on is where the flutes, clarinets and me play together. I cant tell how it sounds all together, but my friend(who plays trumpet)says it sounds good. if you dont play bass already, i recommend switching.its really fun. or it is for me cuz im a band geek. BAND GEEKS RULE!!

I really don`t like playing my bass in marching band. I usually use the stick to hold it up and not the neck strap. Also, I play regular clarinet music for marching band because my teacher is too lazy to find bass music. Other than that, concert band... I love playing my bass. I`m gonna be buying my own ... as soon as I save enough for a wood one. Wood bass` sound so beautiful.

You mentioned Alto in your original message; very VERY few bands get alto clarinets, but I think they are just as good as the bass; they have a wonderful sound, and get a lot of soli parts w/saxes; I have even gotten a solo or two with it. Look into it!

I played bass clarinet two years ago. I loved it. The only thing I didn`t like was that there was another one. Last year I switched to the Eb contrabass, or contra alto. I found it to be even more fun to play. Plus, I`m the only one so I get unintentional solos.

I play the alto clarinet I love it, it can be a bit tempermental at times, but we`re becoming fast friends.

I do however march with my regular B flat soprano clarinet. I think my neck would get sore with the alto.

I occasionally play the e flat soprano for band as well, although the pets hate it and my brother as well. Perhaps that proves that he`s a pet

My best friend plays bass clarinet and she loves it. She`ll never go back to the "same-o, same-o" of the soprano
