Last school year, we had a great band teacher who was fun, gave great music, and led us to become the best band in the school district. This year, the school district decided to put an old fart who has been "teaching" band since 1970. He's lazy, deaf, he lets the class talk and goof off out of control, gives junky music, refuses to actually rehearse the music, plans very few performances, and is in every other way the worst band teacher to ever get a teaching credential. Since the beginning of the year, I have become "first chair" clarinet (He doesn't chair us, so it's unofficial), and I have been conducting and rehearsing the band for about half the period every day. I've become the teacher, and I am forced to do what he should be doing!!! He's like the king, and I'm the prime minister. What should I do?
