You've got to live, breathe and eat all state competition slogans for breakfast.

Slap yourself in the face with a little common sense and get off your lazy rear end. Practice like a fool and then try again.

That should pretty much do it.

Wow I didn't realize how many posts accumulated!
Thanx for all the advice, I'm benefiting reading them in prep for this years auditions
I ended up getting 1st seat of the second section last year, but now I'm preparing for the senior all state.
And I live in DE.
The judging is blind. No one talks except a speaker for you and the three judges have their backs turned. We play scales and sightreading in one room and a solo in another one. We do chromatic, and then two scacles selected that day by the committee up to five sharps/flats.
They total scores from there and take usually around 24 clarinets, but it varies upon like if al lthe scores are close until a certain point where players levels seem to drop or something like that.
This year the audition piece is Cavillini's Adagio and Tarantella (just the tarantella) it's really beautiful. i've had it for a little less than a week and it's already going nicely.
