I heard, at camp, at the staff recital some one doing well...vebrado! I tried so hard trying play it but well it just came out UGLY! How can I do vebrado and how can i make it sound nice?

I think you mean "vibrato". Some people do it different ways, but the best way is with the jaw. Get some private lessons.

Yeah that...umm, well the truth is that i cant get private lessons. We (by the family) dont have time to do many things, and the closest place to get private lessons is about 20 minutes away from where i live. I just need help knowing how to do it.

I wouldnt recommend working on it unless you're very advanced at playing clarinet already. You can search internet sites for how-to's. Look for saxophone sites first, cause the technique is sort of similar.

Clarinets are not vibrato instruments...you don't do it in standard playing, but sometimes you can do it slightly in jazz and swing solos. Listen to Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, and Pete Fountain. They do good vibrato on clarinet. However, it is best to use your diaphragm, not your lips, to play vibrato. Ask a teacher or look it up on the web.

Well, the truth is that i AM in jazz, and yes i play clarinet and the clarinet is some times badly put in for jazz, except for Pete Fountain! THEY are gOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOd! Vibrato is very hard, i look up everywhere, even youtube, nothing for clarinet only sax strings and flute. I looked at sax and flute, but didnt help much, they are not very descripive!

There's a book called "The Art of Saxophone Playing", written by Larry Teal. On pp 54-60 there is a very detailed description of how to play vibrato on the sax. Most of the information will transfer over to the clarinet.

See what comes out. I play vibrato on everything. The only way to be a classy clarinet player is to have a fast and wide vibrato. Some people say that I sound kind of like a ray-gun from a sci-fi movie but I think it's pure beauty.

Look at all of the other instruments. They don't pretend that vibrato is impossible like the dim-witted clarinet players.

I would suggest that you put the metronome on at 60 and do one "wooo" per beat until you perfect it. Then try doing "woo woo" each beat and you are almost there.

Use your diaphragm, not your lips!!! Phil, Robert Marcellus would be very angry with you if he saw that comment...too bad he passed away. Phil, don't cheat. I would think a clarinet "great" like you wouldn't recommend such an idea.

Some people like throat Vibrato, some like lip vibrato. I like diaphram vibrato. Jaw and the other kinds of vibrato sound UGLY, with a good strong air stream, and nice even pressure on the reed, you can obtain a good vibrato, without sounding ugly.

Ive tried every kind and for me diaphram sounds waaaaaay better!

Haha, yeah. The other ones sound ugly, and like a dying animal =D. Most GOOD vibrato comes from a natural singing
voice actually. Remember: Don't use vibrato all the time, it gets old... Use it only for some things..

Sounds nice with SOME slow songs and others loud songs, and mostly if your solo and not with a full band.

Haha, some people can ONLY use vibrato because they have no control over their air stream.

Like that solo i have IF the flutes don't get in the way again.
