Is Artley a good company? If so which clarinet is better the Artley 18S or Artley Prelude. I actually have both but i can`t decide on which one to play.

I`ve never even heard of it. The top clarinet companies that I`ve been told are the best are Buffet, Yamaha, Leblanc, and I think one more. So, I don`t know. As for which of those two clarinets are better, it`s up to you to decide. Which plays better? Which has better sound quality? Which do you feel most comfortable playing? Which is lightest (which leans toward the comfort of playing the instrument)? All these you should ask yourself. Naturally a wooden one has better sound quality and is heavier, so, whichever one you think is better. But, if one is wooden and the other plastic, the wooden one is more than likely the better of the two. Hope this helps you decide.

Artley isn`t a very largely popular brand like Buffet, Yamaha and LeBlanc, but the people that I`ve known who play on Artleys say that Artley clarinets are good for them. As for which you should play.. like Jen said, play whichever one you feel most comfortable with. I would assume that the Prelude is a wooden clarinet and probably better quality; however, whichever produces a better sound should probably be your choice. Have someone listen to you and tell you which one makes a better tone. Enjoy!
