whats your secret to tongue notes well

If your just learning, try and find a rhythm studies page in your method book, or just find a random piece of music. Only play ONE note, and make sure you are tonguing. Then practice using slurs and stuff. Then you can get into playing more then one note and tonguing.

don't push your tongue to the reed. barely bring it to the reed and pull it away.

All I can really say without hearing you play anything is to use a fast , hard, constant stream of air with a light tongue. If your really having trouble, the person who can help you the most would be your band director or a private lessons teacher. They will be able to pinpoint what you are actually doing wrong.

I find I have two tongueing ways. One where I touch the reed lightly and the other where I touch my lower lip lightly. The second one produces a very light touch.
