Hai,
Today after I practiced I tried to take the brrel out of the top joint and it won`t come off. I put cork grease on it right before I played and it still won`t come off. I have a wooden clarinet so is it possible that it expanded? If anyone knows how to unstick it let me know.

You might try sticking the stuck parts in the refrigerator for 1 or 2 hours.
Not the freezer, only the refregerator.
See if the swelling goes down.

sometimes when my oboe reed gets stuck, I blow very fast and hot air into/around it, and it seems to work for me!

I've noticed my corks have been a little snug this summer too. I'd try to keep it in a cool place when you're not using it.

Thanks Everyone. I gave my clarinet to my teacher and he was able to pull it off for me, and I will bring it in to get the corks shaved down soon.

It's not the corks that are expanding - it's the wood. My clarinet does that betimes. I have to gently (very gently) crank it back and forth a few times and it comes loose. But it's the wood that does the expanding and the sticking. I make sure to put cork grease on the wood below the cork also before I play. This helps. Also if I have to stop playing for a half hour or so I take the clarinet apart and leave it on the table like that til I come back. I left it together all night once and I thought I would have to saw it apart it got so tight. So now I'm more careful.

Oh had this problem with mine when i first got it
Try rocking it back and forth for a few minutes and twisting. let it sit for a while as well, they do expand.
I found if I let mine sit for a several hours, or over night it could get it. I had my corks shaved. I recommend that. (i cracked a ringless backuun barrel before i took care of the prob)

If it is wood against wood, or even a cork that is too thick, that's the problem putting more grease on will not help at all but just make a mess. The only remedy, as has already been said, is to get the tenon or socket reduced slightly by a repairer.

New clarinets seem to get stuck together alot at first. Cork grease is your best friend at this point! Also you could get the corks shaved. Eventually you will get stronger & be able to take it apart.

"Eventually you will get stronger & be able to take it apart."

....and if you use too much force break it!!

As people have said before on this forum cork grease is not always the answer. If it doesn't go on smoothly with just a small amount of cork grease the cork is too thick or the wood has swollen & is binding. I see many new instruments with the latter problem. Please take it to a tech to sort it.

this hapenned to me, my dad couldn't pry it apart (and he can get things apart rather effetively) so force does not get them apart, i put mine in a zip lock bag (so it did not get damp) and put it in the fridge for about 40 minutes then it came apart easier

The same thing happened to me a year ago. Fortunately I was familiar with the www.ReedsForLess.com website where I buy reeds and found tips on barrel removal. I thought would have to crack the barell of but fortunately I did not!

Yeah reedsforless.com is real cool, they're pretty much the best prices i've found around anywhere.
