This forum has started to die, so I thought I may just start a topic to get people coming back!

If you had to pick a few of your favorite works for clarinet what would they be and why?

1) Debussy, Premiere Rhapsody
-Hands down, in my opinion, the most perfect work ever written for the instrument.
2) Kovacs, Hommages
-I particularly like the de Falla, Bach, and Strauss, but they are all great works. Kovacs did a great job emulating the composers styles. I would recommend it to anyone who hasn't heard of it.
3)Messager, Solo de Concours
-PERFECT show piece. Great flashy passages, one BITCH of a cadenza, and a nice melody.

So, what about you guys?

I can see I'm out of my league on this board.

I wouldn't know "Debussy, Premiere Rhapsody; Kovacs, Hommages; de Falla; Messager, Solo de Concours" if I saw them or heard them.

On the other hand... If you start talking Pete Fountain, Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Louie Armstrong, Glen Miller, etc., etc.

Now there's something I can relate to.

Artie Shaw's Concerto is absolutely amazing though.....

My personal favorites are Copland Concerto, Rossini Intro, Theme and Variations, Messager Solo De Concours, Poulenc Sonata, Goodbye, "In Memory of Benny", and the Bozza Bucolique

Nothing beats the Nielsen, but the Nielsen can beat you.

Hah. Neilsen is tough. A kid at my school just played it on his senior recital.

If you think the Neilsen is tough though, look at the Francaix. Or even worse, the Corigliano!
