Well it depends on you, and how much effort you put into playing the clarinet. But because you already know music, and clarinet won`t be your first instrument, you should learn quicker. What do you classify as good? Personally I think piano is easier than clarinet, but it too depends on the person.

I just want to say congrats to all that have taught themselves how to play. I am self taught. I have now been playing for 20 years and now I am a music instructor for the younger generation. Share you music gift with younger children.

BTW, I`m a different Jessica
I was self taught for while but since I had already had violin lessons ever since kindergarthan, I was able to progress quickly. The problem was that the beginner music was a bore and I did not have the technical skills to play any interesting repetoire.
I got a teacher and when he first told me to play, he was laughing. My embrochure was incorrect! There are so m any things you can`t teach yourself! If you want to learn seriously, I think you should get a teacher before more technical problems pop up!
