Everyone`s like "Reedguards protect your reeds from warping". What exactly is a warped reed? and why does everyone say reedguards pay for themselves with in a few uses?

I suppose everyone says it pays for itself because it saves you money on replacing warped reeds. Personally, I don`t use a Reedsaver and I`ve never had any problems, but each to his own and all that.

Yeah... it seems everyone is a reedguard advocate. I don`t know. Why should I use a Reedguard if I don`t know what a warped reed is?! Oh well, I use one anyways. For people with Rico/ La Voz Reedguards, does it seem to sort of damage your reeds because its digging into it when you slip it in? Or am I alone on that standpoint?

A warped reed is when moisture stays in the reed and changes it. Wood is a substance which expands and contracts with the temperature. When the reed is in your mouth it stays warm, but when it comes out it grows cold, causing it to `warp`. I don`t know if any of you have ever had trouble with moulding when you put a reed in a case? A way to conquer this is to use an elastic band, and fasten it around the case. lick the cut part of the reed, and wipe the flat back of it, and then fasten in face down to the case with the elastic. Bag it in a plastic bag to prevent temperature, or air `warpage`. i hope this helped!
