Take a look at the Hanson Clarinet thread on this forum. Hanson rate pretty good. (Hand)made in UK.

What is best for one person may not be the best for others.

The two top selling brands are probably Buffet, Leblanc, Selmer. They are the top selling brands because they are reputable and consistent. Even then however, the quality can vary from instrument to instrument.

Then, in a totally different league, you have custom handmade clarinets by the likes of Luis Rossi, based out of Chile, Stephen Fox, out of Canada, and Chadash out of the US.

If you are looking for student instruments, you have to add Yamaha into that equation as they make quality student instruments.

Most importantly though, it depends on what you need and what you sound best on. Try a bunch and see what you like the best.

Personally, I play on a Buffet Vintage, but I would love to own a Fox or Rossi one day.
