Hello everybody!

Well I have a clarinet with a broken mouthpiece. I am looking to purchase a replacement mouthpiece online. However, I do not know what size to get or if that even matters. I am a beginner so forgive me for not knowing lol. Are mouthpieces like a "one size fits all" type of thing or what??? Any information would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance!

It would help to know what make & model of clarinet it is.

Most modern mouthpieces & clarinets are physically & acoustically compatible. It's a matter of personal choice what model & tip opening you select (I think this is probably what you mean by size) - which can be a difficult decision even for experienced players.

Purchasing online does not give you the opportunity to see that the new mouthpiece fits your barrel properly. You may need to return it for exchange.
Mouthpieces do not necessarily fit all clarinets, I have had one that was a whole millimetre smaller in diameter than the barrel of my instrument.If you buy from a local store take the barrel of your clarinet with you. Having pointed that out, I will now advise you to buy either a Fobes Debut or a Hite Premier mouthpiece. These are the two novice mouthpieces most recommended by teachers and professional players.

In most cases you should not need to return the mouthpiece as the cork can be either thinned or replaced with a thicker one - a quick & easy job for any woodwind technician. It's only if the diameter of the mouthpiece tenon is larger than the socket that you might need to try another mouthpiece - even here a tech can sort the problem provided the difference is only small.

Vandoren mouthpieces are very standard and in my opinion, they are the best value. I would go with an M15, B45, or M30. Of course, you could also order a few on trial from a major music supplier online like Woodwind & Brasswind or Muncy Winds (ask about trials in advance--- most places will let you order 3 or 4 mouthpieces, try them, and send back what you don't want to keep) or go to your local music store and try a few.
