Hi!
I just wondered what mouthpieces people liked! Also brands, models, etc...
Also, what do people know about Morrie Backun barrels?

I personally play on a Vandoren M30. My backup is a Greg Smith 1+.

As far as Backun products, I have never really liked any of them. I know people who think his barrels are the best in all situations, but I have never played on a barrel of his that I preferred over my stock barrel that came with my instrument. Does that mean that you won't like them? Of course not!

<Added>

As for instruments, I play R13 Vintages.
My bass is an old LowEb Noblet.

I play on a super-old R13, from 1953. My mouthpiece is an M13 Lyre and as far as barrels go, I use a Moennig. I find the Moennigs to be very, very good. They help with tuning and make it easier to move about the horn in larger intervals. My A clarinet is an RC which I have found to be a pretty good line. I just need to have it worked on by Mark Jacobi, Tim Clark or Mike Hammer. Those guys are the best.

I have played on various mouthpieces for over 25 years but have found my favorite to be a Vandoren B45 for Bb Clarinets. The bore is especially wide and creates a rich, mellow tone without feeling too soggy in the chalumeau register. I would also recommend a Bonade Ligature with this particular mouthpiece as it seems to be a good fit of proper pressure in just the right locations on the reed. Most mid-range to upper level reeds work quite nicely with it.

I use the Vandoren 5RV. For 30 years I used the old V360 and still have it. They don't make them any more--I keep it as my backup. The 5RV is very similar.

I am using a used B45 and an old GM Bundy. The best so far compared to my collection of over 20 mpc.

Like a poster said earlier, it's all about preference. An earlier poster said that he played on a Vandoren B45. I played on one until my senior year of high school then I just couldn't stand it anymore. now I use a Hyte D series and it's really good. I just bought a M13 Lyre mouthpiece but I haven't tried it out yet. So, it's all about preference.

What is so inverted about the Bonade ligatures? It looks the same as my first ligature! I have a leather one now. Would you really recommend it? One of my two band directors sometimes plays clarinet with me, and he has a chainmail ligature! He says that at a convention, someone tried a load of ligs, and the chainmail one sounded the best! Lol!

I'm currently playing on a Vandoren 5RV mouthpiece for concert music, and a Ridenour clear mouthpiece for marching. I like them both a lot!

Vandoren B46 with Vandoren Optimum Ligature. I get a good pure sound out of it.

I play on a vandoren 5RV. I seem to like it alot. Im intrested in testing out some new mouthpieces though. My private lesson teacher recommend a hite mouthpiece but I havnt got around to buying one. I played on his and didnt really see a difference. I suppose it all goes on preference.
