I started playing clarinet in beginning band last year and this year I`m in Marching Band. I`m renting a wooden clarinet and I don`t have enough money to rent both a plastic and wood one. It`s really humid, hot, and a bit rainy where I live. what should I do to take care of my clarinet? It`s already a bit brown from the rain [?] I guess.

wot u left your clarinet in the rain?! maybe you should just rent the plastic one instead. try keeping your clarinet somewhere cool because heat is bad for wooden clarinets.

I didn`t leave it out in the rain, we were playing in the stands and during the show and it started raining. I`m probably only going to be in marching this one semester due to conflicting class periods the next two years so I want to keep the wooden one since it sounds nicer. I will try to keep it in a cooler area though.

w/e you do keep the wooden clarinet from getting wet! it will swell and possibly ruin it for good...you should get a plastic clarinet until you can afford a plastic and a wooden one...use the wooden one when it isnt humid or when your doing something inside...and if its humid out use a plastic one....by the way dont let any woodwind instrument get wet...seriously... it will ruin the pads and it can cost a lot to get them repadded...although clarinet isnt as expensive as a tenor sax...they cost bout $300

Mine use to get that way...it`s from the humidity....I had to oil the bore every day before going out to march...finally got sick of it and switched to marching with saxophone.
