Hello all you nice, helpful fellow clarinetists
I just got a brand-new clarinet for my 16th birthday, and I have a question about it. All the notes sound really good, except for G (open G i mean) it sounds really....ummm...how do i describe this....very airy and generally honky sounding (as my sister said). But its just that note. I was wondering is it just because the keys are still somewhat tight and stiff, or is this not a good instrument that should be taken back? I would really really appreciate it if you could e-mail me back at grobanite_64@hotmail.com
thanx so much!

I really dont know--hmmm...it could be that the hole was not drilled properly--? I cant help u too much on this one--But could you tell me the brand it is? that might help. Also, sometimes older clarinets are much better, especially the R-13 Buffet ones. I have a 1966 model which i got for getting into symphonic band last year...it`s a REALLY great instrument...the Buffet r-13s` prime years are from 1955-to about 1968ish. Hope that helps if just a little!

Thanks to everyone who read my message...
It turns out the keys were just really really stiff from never being used before. Now that I have been using it a few weeks it doesnt sound like it did at first.
Thanks
