I have this test coming up the week after this and just wants to know wich kind of music does sound the best if you`re playing solo?

I Think Jazz really suits the clarinet... but the concertos are nice too

But wich kind of jazz? The slow ones or the more complicated ones? And wich classical piece, I don`t want to play the Clarinet Conzerto by Mozart since everyone else is.

I like to play classical music on the clarinet, which is one of the reasons I took up saxophone, so I play jazz on sax and classical on clarinet. My favourite composer for clarinet is Brahms. HE RULES!

I`m tired of Bach, on my last audition I played Bach. I need something new that will sound…special. Something they will remember, that they don` have heard before.

Slow, melodic blues. Nothing can make me shiver like when someone really good plays slow, melodic blues on the clarinet (or tenor)

Rachel B.....after reading the discussion above, do you really think the Poulenc Sonata isn`t WAY ABOVE this person`s level- I mean come on....

You clearly just want to start a fight, Bradley. You should not criticise other people without knowing them, after all this could be someone who is in the top, way above you, couldn`t it?

I agree with Hemlock here Bradley. Its not just intermediate clarinetist who like the blues and jazz. I was just giving a suggestion and you`re making assumptions with no real knowledge on the other person. I don`t consider the Poulenc sonata to be that difficult either. If just the third movement was done, it could be a very reasonable selection.

If they`re talking about Bach, try a step above something like that. I wasn`t criticizing anyone- like I usually do in other threads to get debates started

The Poulenc is hard if you want to do it right, at least a hard step up from what seems to be their previous pieces.

Hard is relative. Someone may play the third (can`t find the word in english, piece?) in Mozart`s Clarinet concert in A-major without any problem while the second is the hardest, also there is a difference if you`re from east of Europe, from Asia or the West you have been brought up with different music and different playing traditions. Something as easy as good jazz (which I do not think is so easy) may be the hardest thing a person have ever encountered while the runs in the concerto is a piece of cake, ever thougt of that?

Brubeck. All the way. Ballads are cool. Especially Brubeck.
