Do not let other people deter you from your interest in clarinet playing. If u love clarinet playing, no 1 can stop that interest. Just have faith in yourselves. And oh yeah go and scold those people who called you weird.(for all the other clarinet players out there) Of the many famous and professional clarinet players out there, who is weird? NONE!!! CLARINET PLAYING ROX!!! Gd luck to ur clarinet playing!

yea, agree. Alhough i do not play clarinet but piano, ive suffered from stuff like that from ppl saying im a geek and should play electric guitar and that i should go and play some elton john. That was until i played for the school at a concert... the stuff stopped.

Im in grade 6 and you cant get to be good unless you know in yourself your better than the ppl and that most ppl who say stuff are the ones who dont play an instrument and are just jealous.

Screw the other people...I tell my students that they are all jealous because they don`t have the discipline to learn something new every single day of their lives.

Helps all my band students feel proud to play their instruments.

People who can`t do anything themselves tend to tease others that actually do something the other guy also would like to do, jeallosy.

I think that when these people can coordinate all 10 of their fingers at 10+ times a second, plus blow properly and with embouchure control,while concentrating on notes, rhythms and expression, THEN they should be allowed to criticise.

It`s fine. Clarinet playing is a mighty fine thing to do. Just as long as you have the right attitude about it, it`s fine. I mean, don`t talk about it all the time with your friends, because for one thing, moderation is a wonderful thing, but gluttony is bad. Also, even though I`m into all this music and constantly thinking about it, I have a friend who plays the flute and she really isn`t all that good, but she has such enthusiasm for it and talks about it ALL THE TIME and it`s sooo annoying. So all I`m saying is, just don`t make it the only thing you talk about.

What the hell, why do you even care. I love playing the clarinet. It`s the best thing in my life right now! I don`t mean to be harsh but if you love it, keep on loving if b/c it doesn`t matter what the other people are saying. I hope people stop bothering you though so you can keep up the clarinet playing!
