Best to ask your band director or local band students.

wats your clarinet you are using now?
i tried all brands.hmm....opus is the most outstanding,as its intonation is really in tune.tone wise is even through out the whole register.selmer also make good clarinet but very expensive.recently i have tried Buffet newest family, tosca.a supreme clarinet.the best among its family member.but even more expensive then opus.
why didn`t i mention about buffet.coz i got bad experience with all the clarinet except elite and tosca.
but in the end,you have to tried it yourself.i got a leblanc symphonie 7 and a selmer signature.it works perfect for me in chamber and band performances.
Good Luck~

i have a 1966 buffet r-13 and my private lesson teacher whos been playing like 30 years says is an "awesome instrument," even compared to his, which he searched high and low for. my advice: yes, buffet clarinets are EXCELLENT!! But, you HAVE TO at least TRY a vintage one. NO, not the new "VINTAGE R-13s" that are NEW, an old one from 70`s and below, that are truthfully "vintage." the older the clarinet, the better it sounds. ALWAYS...i mean, unless it`s been cracked. but you need to have a professional check this out for you. talk to your band director, have him check out ebay or something. MY BEST ADVICE: DO NOT DO THIS ON YOUR OWN. i let my teacher take care of everything, and i have like the best clarinet in my section.
