no...you should never ever even think about vibrato if you play clarinet. i know it`s rough...but it`s one of the sacrifices of playing clarinet. btw i`m a frosh first chair too.

Orlando,

I`m sorry I didn`t reply for so long. I wouldn`t say that I`m a master of clarinet playing or technique (YET! ), so my ideas are just style issues. I do believe the first movement of the Copland should be about control, but there are some extended high notes that sound to me as if they need just a little something. But thats just me! Also, after the cadenza, Copland writes enough to erase any idea of vibrato. Are you the Orlando who just won the concerto competition? If so, I`m very happy for you! And thats doubly awesome cuz I just won one today, too! I`m playing Mozart.
