The styles are both very different and very great. I don`t think they can be compared by which is "cooler" because they are both very "cool" to listen to/play.

Both are high in my book, unless the individual or orchestra stinks(I have to do this, but lets say for instance the NYPhil!). It would certainly depend on the mood I was in and the rep to be performed. Lets put it this way. When I am in NYC, I always first check to see what the Met is doing. Second, I check Carnegie Hall. Then then the NYC Opera. If nothing of these three appeals, I go to the Village Vanguard in the village. Where is the NYPhil? About as high as getting mugged in Central Park.
