Some people come to these sites because you don`t have to live in a practice room. If you handle your business, you can spend at most three hours a day. Any more than that is making up for wasted practice.

This is how to have a life and be a clarinetist, wow.

I am a clarinettist and composer with a life. As amazing as it may seem, I don`t feel that playing scales all day AND in my sleep is healthy.

I don`t think you`re crazy at all. I completely understand. The clarinet is not only one of the most versatile instruments in the world but it sounds FANTASTIC when played well. My clarinet is my first love - even my boyfriend sometimes takes a backseat but he understands since he`s a clarinet player too. I named my clarinet Jack (after Jack Brymer - vale) and am totally obsessed and have been since my first exposure to it at the age of seven. This guy I know used to play in a quartet in the mall just down from my dad`s shop and I was fascinated with him and wanted to play ever since. I`ve been crazy about this little black tube ever since. I play on an R13 with a clear Vintage AC2 mouthpiece - which is awesome but no longer made.

I do not know about the rest of you but I play in marching and concert bnad, orchestra, and a professional polka band. I have been playing since I was in third grade and this is my eighth year of plaing. Even with all the things that I do I still have a life and friends and keep up with my shool work chores and four showdogs and 2 pet dogs plus two cats. Like others on this sit my clarinet is my pride and joy and i would not give it up for anything. I have been ubsessed since I started playing my first noe and try to always get better. I only wish that some day i can play in Jazz bands as well as all the other things that I do. So if you think that we do not have lives there is the proof that we can still be ubsessed and also have a life wether you believe it or not.

I am in 3 wind ensembles (1 is a symphonic wind ensemble that has one the National A-Grade Band competition 13 times) and has been invited in 2005 to Singapore for the Band Conference (president is the awesome British wind conductor Timothy Reynish), a clarinet choir, 2 chamber groups and a symphony orchestra. In addition, I am a full time performance student at university and work part-time. I get 3 hrs practice in. And that still gives me time to have a social life. Any more practice than 3 hrs is not productive as your brain can not absorb that much information at once. It has to be PRODUCTIVE practice that you do though. But it is possible to have a life outside of clarinet and is healthy to do so. But there`s nothing wrong with being obsessed.

I really like the clarinet too. For some reason, its more fun and exciting than playing violin or flute. I don`t practice much because of my braces. After 5 minutes my mouth will be in too much pain and my embrochure falls apart. Sometimes my braces cut my mouth and I can`t practice. I don`t like to practice violin much, I`m allergic to it and have to wear a scarf, and chinrest hurts me. So right now, I`m practicing piano alot. I also want to be a musician, especially a band teacher! (I`m 15, if that matters)

Hey everyone... man its so nice to see all these people so into music, band, and clarinet. music is a big part of my life, and i intend to keep it that way.

right now i am 15, in freshman band, but in 10 days auditions are for our schools pride and joy-wind symphony, eee! its for the extremely gifted upperclassmen, who compete in class AA (our marching band also competes AA, but thats mostly because of our size, wind symphony is AA because they are just so damn good). and in 9 days, freshmen and wind s. go to OMEA state finals because we both got a one in district.

i sit first chair out of 14 clarients. i have been playing since 5th grade with my wooden Selmer B200 with Vandoren B5 mouthpiece. i wouldn`t give up anything for music. its such an outlet for frustrations and grief. music can make one cry, or lift spirits.

all the time i spend with concert band, after school practices for contest, jazz band three times a week playing tenor sax, plus summer nights with marching band (and all day at school fridays for football games and all day contest days, plus a week of band camp in the middle of nowhere..) band is worth it. its worth all the sweat, tears, and frustration. i still have more than enough time for school, my pets, and my awesoem friends. the memories will last a life time. as in you meet upperclassmen you will never forget, and get to experience so much more than people that are not involved in music. you have the time of you life with friends when you go on trips, wheather it be on the bus on the way to contest, a week in disney world, or a day at the amusement park after a fund raiser.

I LOVE PLAYING MY CLARINET its the most beautiful sounding instrument in the world

lol sorry for rambling, i was just in a musical kind of mode. plus im soo anxious for school to end so marching band to start again!!! although at graduation, ill cry my eyes out

keep on jammin, we all are very lucky to be able to have music as a part of our lives.

I love Playing the Clarinet, i have played saxophone for 4 years and have always thought the sound of the clarinet was beautiful, unfortunetly last year, we got a new "sucky" band director, he mean, rude, and did`nt even know how to play an instrument! this year my original director came back, and i switched to clarinet, i was last chair all through marching season, then when we had our first chair test in december, i was third chair, this made everyone mad, and my best friend who is first chair currently got scared and is acting very rude, and trying to pull me down, because she is scared i am going to beat her, does anyone have any advice on how i should handle her?
