I`m a classical guitarist who does some home recording and collects other instruments when I find a deal. Today I acquired a Normandy Model 10 clarinet and a Cadet flute. I know that Normandy is Leblanc and the Cadet was made by Brittaney. I assume that both are student models. I`d welcome any opinions about the quality of these instruments compared to today`s "starter" clarinets and flutes, and if it`s worth having them re-corked and padded (they`re both okay now, but getting marginal).

My suggestion to you would be to take it into your local instrumental music shop, like Mars Music or Sam Ash Music stores, to have a repair expert look at them.

I have a very old wooden Buffet R13 from the 1930s that we thought was a student model but found out it was the professional model.

As for the corking and padding, if you are going to play them or sell them then yes have it done....if not then there is no point as the corking and padding will just "waste" away again for no good reason.

Also if you are not going to play them, learn them ,etc. I would suggest passing them onto someone who will.
