I recently started playing a B flat clarinet that I bought froma guy a work for $10 dollars. On the bell it says Dyna-Tone Penzell-Mueller New York.It is plastic, at least I think it is and it sounds pretty good for what I paid. Been thinking that I might get a better one if I continue to enjoy it as much as I do now. I played in the school band a long time ago, for one year. Back then I used the school equipment. I don`t remember much about it except that it was all brass. Anyway after reading all of the stuff from you guys about mouthpieces,I thought that perhaps I should get a better one for myself. I really don`t know what I should be looking for. Should I just wait until I get a better horn or get a good one and transfer it to the new horn? I don`t know what to look for in a mouthpiece, what brand is best or would best serve me. I would rate myself as somewhere between a beginner and an intermediate. Play more Pop than classical. Also any advice about reeds would be appreciated. I have been using Rico 2 1/2 and 3. Seems like it takes a couple of weeks to get a reed broken in. Maybe it`s just me. Also do I need to get a new ligature with the mouthpiece. How important is it? The one I have says M Martin France. Anyway, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I teach beginner band and privately so I know that I highly recommend starting with a 4c mouthpiece if you are just starting out. If you`ve been playing for a while I`d move up to the intermediate mouth pieces, sorry I don`t know the names or numbers because I only recommend hand made ones for my really interested students.
